The Viral Sensation
Although “Shinunoga E-Wa” was originally released in 2020, it gained massive global attention in 2022, especially on TikTok. This song even climbed to #4 on Spotify’s Global Viral Chart and hit #1 on local viral charts in 23 countries!
But, do you know what "Shinunoga E-Wa" really means?
The title “Shinunoga E-Wa” translates to:
“I’d rather die”
The song expresses deep emotions of longing and commitment in love, with lyrics that suggest someone would rather die than be separated from their loved one. Powerful, right?
🔥 Tell me in the comments—what do you love most about this song? 🔥
Is It Hard to Play on Guitar?
Yes! I’d rate it 3 stars out of 5 in difficulty.
Wait… why not 5 stars, since I said it’s challenging? 🤔
Well, the rhythm itself isn’t too tricky, and you can probably get it down in a short time—if we ignore the fact that it’s 158 BPM. 😅
Let’s break down what makes it challenging.
Speed
At 158 BPM, this song is fast—no doubt about it.
The most important rule for this piece?
ALTERNATE your right-hand fingers when plucking!
If you keep using the same finger repeatedly, it’ll be super hard to keep up with the speed.
*(GIF at 0.5x speed here!)
Look at how my right-hand fingers alternate between notes—it makes playing more efficient and fluid.
LH Position
You only need two main positions:
1st to 4th fret
4th to 7th fret (except for the slides—more on Point 4)
The real challenge isn’t moving your hand—it’s moving your fingers.
Check out bars 3 and 4—they almost feel like piano fingerings!🤕
Hence, start slow, get comfortable with the finger placements, and then build up speed.
Repetitive Notes
Bars 9-12 and 17-20 are filled with just 0s and 3s.
A huge tip (which I mentioned in my Fly Me to the Moon breakdown):
🎤 Sing the song while playing!
It’ll help you internalize the rhythm and make it feel more natural.
Slides
Ever noticed the small “5” before the “7” in the tab? That’s a grace note.
Grace note — a quick note before main note, usually performed with a hammer-on, pull-off or slide.
*(GIF at 0.5x speed!)
Pluck the 5th fret and IMMEDIATELY slide to the 7th fret.
Then, when you see the line going from 7 back to 5, just slide your finger back normally.
That’s it for the super viral Japanese song “Shinunoga E-Wa”!
I know it’s been 2+ years since the trend, but hey—it’s never too late to learn!
⚡ Share this with your friends so you can all learn and practise together!
Until next time—happy playing! 🎸✨
