Yea, you heard it - two newsletters in a row all about Bruno Mars!
This song has been stuck in my head so much that I’ve even been humming the song the WHOLE DAY!
Last week, we looked at his collab with Lady Gaga, and now, we’re here for “APT.,” his newest track with Rosé from BLACKPINK. With two super-viral songs, Bruno’s showing us all why he’s a master of making hits!
What’s “APT.” Really About?
It turns out, “APT.” is inspired by a popular Korean drinking game! Known as “Apartment” or “Apateu” in Korean, it’s a fun, rhythmic game with a twist.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
1. Start the Chant: Begin with the chant you hear at the start of the song to set the rhythm.
2. Say “Apateu”: Everyone says “apateu” together while moving to the beat.
3. Hand Stack: When the leader calls out a number, players stack hands on top of each other.
4. Hand Pull: Say “one,” as the person at the bottom pulls their hand out and places it on top.
5. Repeat: Keep pulling and stacking hands, counting up, until reaching the leader’s number.
6. Lose and Drink: Whoever’s hand lands on top for that number loses and has to take a shot.
Rosé actually shared a video of how to play here!
***If you’re underage, maybe just stick to enjoying the song for now 😉.***
My Arrangement
I’ve kept this arrangement super accessible to match the song’s chill vibe. So don’t worry if you’re new to guitar—this one’s totally beginner-friendly, designed to let you dive in and feel the groove.
Few key parts to take note:
Half Barre Chord
In Bars 1 and 2 (red bracket), we play the G note (1st string, 3rd fret), then switch to the D note (2nd string, 3rd fret). The transition could cut off the melody if we use our LH index to press one after another, so try a half barre on the 3rd fret for Bars 1-8.
I know I know, holding a barre chord for 8 bars seems hard. But it’s a great barre chord practice for your index finger! So let’s try our best!
Hammer-On
After Bar 8, we are gonna repeat Bar 9 six times 🤯🤯🤯.
Look at the blue bracket to spot hammer-ons. Using the half barre from earlier, press the Bb note (3rd string, 3rd fret) using index, pluck, and hammer onto the 5 with your LH ring finger without lifting the Bb note.
Slides
In the red bracket, we have slides! Starting with your LH index on Bb, pluck and slide to the C note (3rd string, 5th fret) without re-plucking.
*RH - Right Hand, LH - Left Hand
