💃 Learning “Anxiety” by Doechii 🎸
Alright, today we’re picking up “Anxiety” by Doechii — yes, THAT song that’s been popping off on TikTok lately 💃🕺
Originally recorded in her bedroom back in 2019, the song gained massive attention in 2025 thanks to a viral dance trend.
It samples Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”, giving it that familiar, nostalgic touch — and people couldn’t stop looping it.
You might’ve seen this viral TikTok where Will Smith and Tatyana Ali joined the trend:
The track’s popularity led Doechii to officially release it on streaming platforms — and now, we’re bringing it to the guitar world 🎸
It’s super groovy, catchy, and honestly not that hard to learn!
🎵 Content Breakdown
Here are a few things to watch out for in this arrangement:
1. LH Position
For 95% of the song, your left hand stays around frets 5–8.
There’s just one quick slide to fret 10, which we’ll talk about below!
2. Repetition
Yup, it’s super repetitive — not just individual notes, but whole phrases.
Check out bar 2 and 4, bar 9 and 11 etc. — they’re identical.
🔁 Why is this tricky?
When something repeats too much, we tend to go into autopilot — and that’s when mistakes sneak in.
It’s easy to zone out or miss the subtle differences, so stay sharp!
3. Slides
The only slide happens in bar 5, and it’s the only time your LH needs to move.
Here’s how I play it:
Pluck the 8th fret on beat 4
Slide up to the 10th fret without plucking again
Slide back to the 8th fret and pluck it on beat 1
4. Irregular Rhythm
Take a look at bar 1–4:
🔴 Red bracket: The first note doesn’t land on a main beat (like 1 or 3), but on the “+” (offbeat).
🔵 Blue bracket: In bar 2 and 4, beat 1 is a tied note, so the next note comes in on beat 2.
🟠 Orange bracket: In bar 3, the first note starts from the “+” of beat 1, not beat 1 itself.
*Many bars follow this offbeat structure, so keep your internal counting strong!
Now, let’s look at bar 15–16:
Those 4 notes in the red bracket each last 1.5 beats — and it makes the rhythm feel “off” compared to earlier.
My advice? Practice this part slowly, without the song — Feel the rhythm before you play it in full speed.
Overall, this one isn’t super difficult — but the rhythmic quirks and repetition might catch you off guard if you’re not careful.
